"Parents and families are not just the people the children go home to after the end of the day or session; they are the mainstay of the children's lives"-- Janet Gonzalez-Mena
"Many adults tend to overestimate young children academically and underestimate them intellectually"-- Sylvia C. Chard
"There's more to life than just in your neighborhood"-- Raymond Hernandez, MS Ed
"It's not all about you, but what's best for the child" --Renatta M. Cooper, Program Specialist
I think your quotes are right on. Raymond Hernandez's quote also stood out to me about there is more to life than what's in your neighborhood. Many children feel like they are never going to be anything past what they see around them so they give up to soon and I think what Hernandez is doing is commendable. But you definitely have to teach the parents that there is more for them outside what's in their neighborhood so that the children will understand that the it's ultimately their choice in what they get out of there situation. They just need help gaining the tools necessary to make and informed decision.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love the quotes that you chose for this week's assignment. Interestingly, we chose the same quote for Renatta Cooper, whom I had the honor of meeting in person at the NAEYC conference in Anaheim, CA. Renatta is a very non-chalant educator who is always ready to give helpful input as it relates to the education and development of children. Her quote fits her demeanor perfectly...selfless and accomodating. I can appreciate her contribution to the EC field.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your comments. I agree that parents and families are the mainstay of a child's life.
